About the Department

The Technology and Operations function is comprised of five teams of specialists with distinct capabilities: business partnership, technology, operations, risk governance and planning support and services. We work closely together to harness the power of technology to support our physical and digital banking services and operations. This includes developing, centralising and standardising technology systems as well as banking operations in Singapore and overseas branches.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance in developing robust core banking solutions and changes for the bank globally in order to provide higher efficiency, more cost savings and minimise the operational risk.
  • Ensure systems and applications are fully supported and functional through:
    • Defining clear standards and instill discipline in teams to provide timely production support
    • Providing timely resolution on production issues to minimize any operational interruptions, customer and financial impact
    • No down-time to critical systems through proper periodic maintenance
    • Proper processes in patch deployment and release management
  • Lead and manage on-shore and off-shore in-house development teams and vendors to deliver regional IT projects and change requests in compliance with the bank’s standards and guidelines; responsible for optimum allocation and utilization of resources
  • Manage and provide supervision on deployment of strategic projects both development and deployment to the region to ensure time to market and smooth system implementations. Projects are expected to complete on time and within budget.
  • Enable a global IT application delivery and support model by
    • Building and institutionalizing relevant IT processes incorporating industry best practices
    • Strategically aligning IT architectures with global business needs
  • Collaborate with other application owners to ensure complete end-to-end solution that addresses all business, technical and operational imperatives. 
  • Support new business initiatives
  • Responsible for people development aspects for the Core Banking department
  • Responsible for the adherence to performance management process by the department.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance to UOB Code of Conduct, applicable policies and Group/Local regulatory requirements e.g. compulsory block leave, corporate compliance trainings, timely submission of time sheets

Job Requirements

  • University Graduate with a Degree in Engineering / Computer Science / Information Technology; Related professional/technical qualification (e.g. PMP) will be advantageous although not mandatory
  • Strong Engineering background, with at least 15 years of experience in management and leadership role in development, support and deployment of various core banking applications.
  • Experience in Silverlake Integrated Banking Suite will be an advantage, but not mandatory
  • Good business knowledge across multiple domains of Core Banking
  • More than 10 years proven track record in developing and delivering global/regional IT capabilities for a multi-national/regional company with annual budgetary responsibility
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to lead a diverse team of engineers (>100 people) in a leader-of-leaders role.
  • Able to: 
    • interact effectively with senior managers and peers across the enterprise
    • manage multiple tasks and meet timelines, without sacrificing quality 
    • influence decision makers, Senior Managers and other stakeholder in order to accomplish tasks and meet objectives
    • manage multiple time-sensitive and competing priorities
  • Proven result-oriented career with a focus on development
  • Highly experienced and effective in managing with various stakeholders
  • Highly experienced and effective in vendor management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A good listener and able to respond well to feedback
  • Excellent analytic skills
  • Demonstrable project management skills
