UOB Innovation Hub 2 (InnoHub 2) is a newly set up technology centre located in Kuala Lumpur as part of UOB Group Technology and Operations to deliver innovative financial technology solutions that enable business growth and technology transformation.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and accountable DevOps Automation Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team. This hybrid role blends 50% traditional System Administration responsibilities with 50% automation engineering, focusing on improving operational efficiency, security posture, and scalability through tools like Chef, Ansible, and Terraform.
Key Responsibilities:
System & Security Administration (50%)
- Perform system hardening and enforce security baselines across Linux/Windows environments.
- Manage user lifecycle operations (creation, modification, deactivation) in compliance with access control policies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues across on-prem and cloud environments.
- Ensure compliance with internal security standards and external regulations.
Automation & Infrastructure as Code (50%)
- Design and implement automation for repetitive sysadmin and security tasks using Chef, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Build reusable playbooks/modules for provisioning, configuration management, and compliance enforcement.
- Develop scripts and pipelines to assess and report the impact of automation changes.
- Maintain version control and documentation for all automation assets.
Incident Management & Root Cause Analysis
- Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership during incidents, with a proactive attitude to dig deep and identify root causes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive permanent fixes and prevent recurrence.
- Document findings and contribute to knowledge bases and post-incident reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Security, DevOps, and Application teams to ensure seamless integration of automation into existing workflows.
- Proactively follow through on tasks and projects, ensuring no gaps in execution or communication.
- Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders and drive initiatives to completion.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in System Administration (Linux/Windows).
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with automation tools (Chef, Ansible, Terraform).
- Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or PowerShell).
- Solid understanding of security best practices and system hardening techniques.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to take ownership, drive root cause analysis, and follow through on complex issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as 5 years in Sys Ops or Sec Ops .
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (CIS, NIST, ISO 27001).
- Expertise in one of automation tool (Chef/TEM/Ansible).
