About the Department
Special Asset Management (SAM) is an independent and centralised division that manages the restructure, work-out and recovery of the Non-Performing Loan (NPL) and Non-Performing Asset (NPA) portfolios in Malaysia. The primary objectives are to: (i) nurse the NPL back to financial health when possible for transfers back to the business unit for management and (ii) maximise recovery of the NPL (be it under a restructuring plan or recovery plan where an exit of relationship is inevitable) and also the NPA.
Other responsibilities in line with the roles of SAM include formulating account strategy/action plan (this includes legal enforcement options and insolvency regime), negotiating/reaching agreement with borrower on restructuring plan or recovery plan, monitoring/reviewing the progress/effectiveness of the restructuring plan or recovery plan and where necessary, making changes to the said plan, and asset sale programme.
The Review and Remedial Management Unit (RRMU) under SAM performs independent reviews and timely and appropriate downgrading of credits to ensure impartiality in the credit grading process and devise remedial strategies for management of the said credits if warranted.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct independent credit review of the Wholesale Banking accounts that fall within the identified tracks, to determine their appropriate classifications and devise appropriate strategies to mitigate the credit defaults/losses.
- Monitor & follow-up on the identified vulnerable/high risk accounts with the objective of curing/mitigating the identified risks.
- Assist business units in the credit assessment of proposals submitted.
- Manage a portfolio of Wholesale Banking non-performing loans (NPLs).
- Credit assessment of restructuring/recovery proposals.
- Review loan documentation.
- Follow-up with solicitors/receivers/liquidators on the progress of all legal proceedings.
Job Requirements
- Possess a recognised Bachelor's degree, preferably in Finance, Accounting or Banking, from a recognised university / college.
- Strong analytical skills including financial analysis and credit assessment, preferably with 3 - 5 years’ experience in corporate / commercial credits environment.
- Able to identify, review, analyse and offer risk mitigation solutions for vulnerable credits.
- Proactive and highly motivated self-starter.
- Possess a positive attitude with excellent communication, good business writing and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently and is a team player.
