Job Responsibilities

The CEO of UOB Asset Management (UOBAM) Malaysia will be accountable for driving growth, bring best practices and put in place / enhance current processes and targets, manage accountability and drive KPIs.

An accomplished leader with a wealth of experience, expertise, and proven results in retail and institutional asset management playing a pivotal role to lead and grow our business in Malaysia/ South East Asia. This person should have a driven passion, client focus mindset and the ability to work closely with professionals across UOBAM Group to develop and deliver sophisticated investment products and solutions.

Reporting to the Group CEO, Asset Management, your responsibilites will include (but not limited to):

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and articulate clear vision, mission, and strategic roadmap for the company, aligned with market trends, client needs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Business Development: Drive business development efforts to expand the firm's client base, increase assets under management (AUM), and identify new growth opportunities in domestic and international markets. Utilize data analytics and market research to identify emerging trends and capitalize on investment opportunities.
  • Financial Management: Oversee financial performance, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure profitability, efficiency, and sustainable growth. Utilize financial modeling and forecasting techniques to optimize investment strategies and manage risk exposure effectively.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies, implementing robust risk management processes and controls. Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices to mitigate compliance and operational risks.
  • Talent Development: Attract, retain, and develop top talent, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning. Utilize HR analytics and performance management systems to assess and develop employee skills and capabilities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including shareholders, regulators, industry associations, and strategic partners. Represent the company's interests and promote its reputation and brand through thought leadership, public speaking engagements, and participation in industry forums.
  • Innovation and Technology: Drive innovation and leverage technology to enhance investment processes, operational efficiency, and client engagement. Evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies, such as AI and blockchain, to improve investment decision-making, automate workflows, and enhance cybersecurity measures.

 

Job Requirements

Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of successful leadership and senior management experience within the asset management industry, preferably in Malaysia or South East Asia region.
  • Strong contacts with GLCs and corproates in Malaysia, understanding their risk tolerance will be added advantage
  • Familiar with the retail landscape in Malaysia and contacts with key goalkeepers amongst the major banks
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment strategies, and regulatory environment, with the ability to navigate complex market dynamics and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders and inspire confidence and trust.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and capitalize on market opportunities, drive business growth, and mitigate risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CFA) preferred.
